Where Should You Go to Address your Audi’s Engine Misfires

Audi Services and Repair

Audi’s are known as the practical alternative to luxury motoring. They embody all the elements desired from a luxury vehicle but possess innovations designed for the rigours of everyday life. Audi is the perfect choice for professionals who need functionality but still have a passion for motoring.

However, something that can really ruin the functionality and performance of your Audi is regular misres. Disruptive to your driving experience and damaging to your car, misfires should always be investigated and never ignored. With this in mind, in this article, we will take a closer look at the different types of misre, what causes them, and the best place to go to seek repairs

How Does the Combustion Cycle Work?

  1. Intake: Stroke 1 is known as the intake stroke. This is where air and fuel enter the engine through the inlet valve. This step requires the piston, cylinder, and crankshaft to work together.
  2. Compression: During stroke 2, the inlet valve closes to create a tight seal. The piston retracts back into the cylinder, increasing the pressure. This makes that air/fuel mixture in the engine highly flammable
  3. Power: Stroke 3 is where the power happens. The spark plugs create sparks within the engine, igniting the fuel. The combustion of the fuel releases a burst of hot gas, which causes the piston to drop. This allows the energy created to be released to the crankshaft, which gives your vehicle forward motion.
  4. Exhaust: Stroke four allows the outlet valve to open. This carries the exhaust gases created by the burning fuel out of the vehicle via the exhaust pipe.
  5. Repeat: The process then repeats itself, ensuring the crankshaft continues to spin.

Different Types of MIsfires

If any step in the combustion cycle is interrupted, then misre can occur. There are 3 types of misre which can occur, each for different reasons:

  • Lean Misre: This occurs when the air/fuel ratio in your engine is imbalanced and the mixture within the engine isn’t ammable enough for the spark plugs to ignite.
  • Ignition Misre: This type of misre usually occurs when there are issues with the spark plugs or the connected ignition systems. Ignition misre occurs when sparks are not created to ignite the fuel in the engine.
  • Mechanical Misre: If any of the mechanical parts of the combustion cycle fail, such as the pistons or valves, then mechanical misre occurs

What Causes Misfires to Occur?

As the engine represents a complex system of parts all working together to achieve one goal, there can be many reasons why a misre might occur. Being aware of these causes can help you to respond faster to any problems and seek remediation before damage can occur. Listed below are some of the most common causes of engine misfire issues:

  • Faulty or worn out spark plugs
  • Faulty spark plug connectors/wires
  • Failed MAF sensor
  • Faulty fuel pump
  • Clogged fuel injectors
  • Clogged fuel liter
  • Faulty intake gasket
  • Worn Piston rings
  • Faulty EGR valve
  • Head gasket leaks
  • Transmission issues
  • Clutch issues
  • Electronic failures
  • Battery issues
  • Crankshaft failure

It is important to never ignore misfires, particularly if they appear to be occurring more and more frequently. Frequent misfires put excess strain upon your engine and related systems causing a chain reaction of failures. This can cause excessive deterioration of parts, or in a worst case scenario, severe engine damage.
