BMW’s Schedule: Service I and Service II
Older BMWs (models 2005 and earlier) need major service every 30,000 miles with more frequent oil changes in between. The manufacturer recommends service visits every 20,000 miles for newer editions. The company outlines preventive care points under Service I and Service II. When you bring your car for Service I, a knowledgeable technician will attend to three major areas–the undercarriage, engine compartment, and body/electrical components. They will change the oil and filter and look for leaks in the transmission, rear axle, fuel tank/lines, and power steering. The brake pad thickness, disc brake surface condition, and the exhaust system will also be examined. As part of a suspension system check, your technician will inspect the suspension track rods, setter, steering linkage, joint disc, and front axle joints. The service visit includes examining the tires again and verifying spare tire air pressure and wheel alignment, which impacts tread wear. One of our BMW experts will also look at the conditions of the parking brake cable, front control arm bushings, and clutch system lines and connections. This is also when wheel center hubs are greased and braking (caliper and pad) contact points are cleaned. Also, the mechanic will use the OBD-II reader to detect any triggered trouble codes. Fluids such as power steering, brake, windshield, and coolant are measured and topped off if needed. Before resetting the service indicator, your service provider also verifies air conditioning system function and hose condition. Finally, the body and electrical inspection include checking to make sure basic car components are functioning. Your Service II visit entails more extensive preventive measures such as installing new filters, replacing spark plugs, and changing the differential oil.
