Understanding the Lettered Codes
Nearly every Mercedes-Benz owner is familiar with the Service A and B recommendations. Just in case you’re new to ownership in this car line, we’re glad to recap these for you.
Once your auto reaches 10,000 or one year of operation–whichever comes first–it’s time for Service A. A technician will take care of essential maintenance points such as oil change, tire air pressure, brake inspection, a reading, and fluid check. They will also reset the maintenance counter. Driven under normal conditions, year models 2009 and newer are subject to this schedule. Check your owner’s manual for service intervals as applied to older vehicles. Also, have a conversation with us if you drive under unusual circumstances or extreme distances.
At 20,000 miles, your German auto will be due for Service B. This visit includes a repeat of the A checklist and a brake fluid change and cabin dust/combination filter replacement. Once again, the maintenance minder is reset. The same guide regarding year models also applies to this set of services.
Other maintenance visits identified by a letter might not be as familiar to some Mercedes-Benz drivers. For instance, C-Service is the term used to describe the oil, filter, and lube service that’s a best practice every 5,000 miles.
A D-service is warranted when a display in your vehicle prompts you. This code allows the opportunity to plan for a longer, usually about a half-day, appointment. In addition to the needed oil change, your technician will also repair minor problems according to the vehicle’s needs.
Similarly, the E-Service visit takes an extra five or six hours. It necessitates a more significant expenditure, and you should schedule after 15,000 miles of driving. Your technician will take care of less frequent routine maintenance points, generally referred to as a tune-up in other car lines. This service includes replacing spark plugs and the rotor button, adjusting valves, as well as a thorough inspection.
